Peek & Cloppenburg is an international chain of retail clothing stores with headquarters in Germany. The chain is operated by two separate and independent companies, Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf (known as P&C West) and Peek & Cloppenburg KG Hamburg (known as P&C North). ==History== On 20 April 1900, the Dutch merchants Johann Theodor Peek (1845–1907) and Heinrich Anton Adolph Cloppenburg (1844–1922) founded "Peek et Cloppenburg GmbH" in the city of Düsseldorf, Germany. Both men had moved from the Netherlands to Germany to realize their vision of offering high-quality men’s fashion at a reasonable price. A short time after the company was formed they opened their first store in the center of Düsseldorf. The business was immediately successful. James Cloppenburg, son of founder Anton Adolph Cloppenburg, opened the company's second store in 1901 in Berlin. *Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf - In 1926, James Cloppenburg junior (died 1986), son of James Cloppenburg senior entered the business. - In 1998, the until then separate P&C companies in the Netherlands and Belgium were added to the Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf. - In 1991, John Cloppenburg started Anson’s, a men’s fashion retail company that is not part of Peek & Cloppenburg. - Harro Uwe Cloppenburg (born 1940) is now the head of the company. His sons Hendrik, John and Patrick are active in the company. *Peek & Cloppenburg Hamburg In 1937, Fritz Cloppenburg (1914–2003), son of Anton Cloppenburg, entered the business.
